Opinion: I Don’t Know If I’m Quite Ready To Share Doja Cat…

I met her through my off/on big brother, Chris Brown. Well, through his Instagram post of her. Oh, and by “big brother” I mean he’s never met me.

Breezy shared a video of a pretty girl singing and dancing in her infamous cow suit. Despite the simple lyrics, this cow-suit girl melodically made her presence known.

I was addicted and only watched her video for 10 seconds.

I clicked her profile and was greeted with all sorts of energetic colors. I found footage of her and more of her music. I saw pictures of her playing video games, like me. I watched her paint her music in realtime.

We have the same love for poetry. I’m addicted.

My girlfriend and I were riding around in Bowie, MD when I discovered that she too had been following this girl. We clicked onto one of her live videos and she was working on a song in her neon-lit home studio. She was asking us for lyrics and beat suggestions and to be honest, I think we had a moment.

She started rapping, “my twins big like Tia Tamara,” before asking what we thought about the lyrics. Next thing I know, we were writing music together and enjoyed every moment of it.

My addiction became the remedy as I felt so relieved to watch this girl love music as much as I do. The addiction and prescription are both named Doja Cat.

Never Enough To Divide the Pie

I know I’m breaking a law of some sort because I work in commercial music, but sharing my favorite artists with the industry is never good.

I hate to watch them transform from music lovers to music workers. It’s a contagious disease and drains my passion for music as well. When emotions get genetically modified as opposed to organically recorded, I can feel it as a fan. It’s not a good feeling.

Somewhere between the cliche’ commercials, movie appearances, social media blasts, fast-food music, and billions of radio spins; I don’t know if I’m ready to share Doja Cat yet.
