McConnell Lays Out Impeachment Trial Rules, Democrats Not Happy

Washington, DC-

Less than 24 hours before the beginning of the historic Trump impeachment trial, Mitch McConnell sets the rules.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced regulations for the impeachment trial. It appears that republicans expect a speedy trial. House Impeachment managers and Donald Trump’s legal team will get 24 hours over 2 days for their opening arguments.

Republican expedience could be because President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address is 2 weeks away.

Senate Minority Chuck Schumar stated, “It’s clear Sen. McConnell is hell-bent on making it much more difficult to get witnesses and documents and intent on rushing the trial through, On something as important as impeachment, Senator McConnell’s resolution is nothing short of a national disgrace.” With McConnell’s ruling, this trial really could move quicker than expected.

Long Days of Trial

McConnell’s regulations mirror somewhat of a condensed trial. As a result, 12-hour days of deliberation can happen.

Trial is expected to begin at 1PM EST.
