WASHINGTON, DC –
President Donald Trump has begun his revenge tour on those who testified against him. Lt. Col. Alex Vindman and US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland have been fired by the White House.
Vindman and Sondland both testified under oath about their knowledge of Trump’s Ukraine activity. Though Trump was acquitted, their testimony revealed a lot about the case. Vindman was expecting to leave in July but as fired Friday, earlier than expected. Sondland said Friday that he was recalled from his post.
“I was advised today that the President intends to recall me effective immediately as United States Ambassador to the European Union,” Sondland said. “I am grateful to President Trump for having given me the opportunity to serve, to Secretary Pompeo for his consistent support, and to the exceptional and dedicated professionals at the U.S. Mission to the European Union. I am proud of our accomplishments. Our work here has been the highlight of my career.”
Another Vindman fired.
LT. Col. Alex Vindman has a twin brother Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman who was also fired today. He served as the National Security council attorney.
Vindman was”suddenly and with no explanation, despite over two decades of loyal service to this country,” according to his lawyer David Pressman. It’s important to note that Yevgany Vindman never testified but his only ‘guilt’ in Trump’s eyes is that he is Alex Vindman’s twin brother.
Completely foul play.
Dangers of an authoritarian America.
Trump’s actions are reminiscent of North Korean tactics where you get punished for standing against the “leader”.
The most sickening part of it all is that everyone who testified did so under oath and could have faced harsh repercussions for lying. They did their country a true service by standing on their truths and choosing to be honest under so much pressure.
An authoritarian America doesn’t stand up to Trump even when his antics need explanation. It creates a dangerous environment where he can get away with just about anything because he punishes anyone who has an issue with his actions.
It numbs the republican applause that he receives during his speeches and other public moments. It’s sad that the gravity of their applause is only to save themselves but at the expense of the public at large.
Somewhere in America’s dark history we’ve made it common practice to put party over policy or party of the people but it’s my sincerest hope that someone comes along and makes a change.
Otherwise, “the land of the free and home of the brave” will need a slogan.
