The coronavirus outbreak has cramped many industries. Some of those are the film, television, and music industries. Netflix is a leader of two of those industries and has pledged $100 M to help.
Netflix says that fund will “help with hardship in the creative community”. Believe it or not, it’s expensive to create art. According to Parlay Studios, some films have budgets topping out near $150 Million. These film companies then make the money back by the millions of people who buy tickets to see the film.
Coronavirus has limited those movie trips.
The entertainment industry could crumble if artists are no longer able to fund their projects. It’s now up to the leaders of these different industries to step up and fund raise for survival. It’s beautiful to be able to see Netflix leading the way with such a generous donation.
The relief will be dished out according to specific project needs and will be provided “in addition to the two weeks pay (they’ve) already committed to the crew and cast on productions.” Also, $15 million has been specified for non-profits like the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Covid-19 Disaster Fund, Motion Picture and Television Fund, and Actors Fund.
Shout out to the creatives who are brightening up this dark moment in time.
