Please Stay Home: We’re Not Ready To Re-Open the World and That’s ‘Ok’

I have to get this off of my chest.

News outlets are running clips of Wisconsin and each clip grinds my gears. In Wisconsin, the Supreme Court found the “Stay at Home” order unlawful. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) issued the order in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

It is a well-needed order. Honestly, we should just cancel the entire year.

The order was reversed on a 4-3 vote as the court decided that it was “unlawful”. According to CBS News, the state’s court suggested that the order had been issued as a rule. That would have required working with legislature on the issue. The initial order was issued in April and was extended to May 26th.

Well, until the Supreme Court stepped in.

Trapped by the walls.

I haven’t been stuck in the house and maybe that’s why I’m having trouble connecting with the people of Wisconsin. We’ve still been required to come into work at the radio station because we’re a media entity (obviously). But, I can imagine that millions of people are going stir-crazy in the house.

That isn’t a pass to be ignorant of the virus, however. Surely, COVID-19 cannot care less about whether you’re feeling trapped in the house or not. The virus will not let up and skip over you so you can enjoy the outdoors again.

“It’s been kinda boring sitting in my house, I love my fiancée but there’s only so much we can handle from each other without having interaction with other people,” Hayden Krueger told CBS’ Milwaukee affiliate WDJT. She’s one of the thousands of Wisconsin residents who celebrated the reversal of the stay-at-home order.

I get it, Hayden. But, what about if your bar-scapade contracted the virus and has made you and your beau carriers? Would that brew have been worth contracting this life-threatening virus?

Nope. No beer is that good.

Fear is mind killer.

It’s that little evil that disintegrates itself within our psyche. I look at it as something that scrambles our brains and blurs our responses to life’s changes.

I also think that ‘fear’ is what fuels people’s desires to get back to work despite the virus’ growth.

People have businesses and operations that they are running to help keep their lights on. With limited human interaction, thousands of businesses across the country have had to freeze their operations. That means that these families who run these businesses have been strangled at the hands of the virus and their companies may not survive.

It’s scary but not scarier than being on a respirator.

Citizen’s worry for their next dollar has blurred their ability to adapt to the reality that we all just need to sit the hell down for a while.

I don’t know where your next dollar is coming from and trust me, I do care. I just plead with my loved ones that we all understand that the money that we fight for has no value if we die in the process. Imagine being a bar owner and re-opening (pre-maturely) just to grab a few extra bucks if possible. But, your restaurant becomes contaminated in the process and your one day of opening could cause a small spike in cases in your community. Then, those patrons who foolishly visited your establishment carry the virus back into the communities that you live in.

It’s not worth it. It’s just not.

They’re open but don’t go.

If you’ve ever listened to anything I’ve ever said, this is the best advice I can give you;

Don’t go out the crib.

“America, the beautiful” has been the land of idiots as of late. Our response to COVID-19 has been quite the opposite of beautiful. Leadership clearly takes turns throwing out stupidity and painting it as “good ideas” but to be truthful, they’re committing murder and getting away with it.

It may not feel like it sometimes but this is the “land of the free”. You’re completely free to not go out and patronize these places that have pre-maturely re-opened. In fact, I beg of you to refrain from doing so.

Per USA Today, Health officials have warned that this will be the “darkest winter in modern history.” I don’t take that warning lightly and I don’t think you should either.

To whom it may concern, whatever you’re leaving the house for is not as important as your health and the health of your family. Understand that no reward is worth this risk and if we are able to sacrifice a few months of solitude, our society can curate a new norm.

-but, if we continue to ignore the experts and put the dollar before human life, well. Let’s just say I’d prefer to end this right here.

Ciao.
